Fortior Introduces FU75xx RISC-V Motor Controller Family for BLDC and PMSM Drives

Scalable platform for industrial, consumer and automotive applications

Fortior’s new FU75xx family provides a highly integrated motor control platform for BLDC and PMSM drives. Combining a modern 32-bit RISC-V architecture with a dedicated Motion Engine (ME-Core), the devices deliver outstanding control performance while significantly reducing development effort. Thanks to a unified platform concept, the FU75xx family is suitable for applications ranging from household appliances and industrial automation to automotive auxiliary systems.

One Platform – Multiple Applications

All members of the FU75xx family share the same MCU architecture, memory structure and motor-control peripherals. The individual devices mainly differ in their integrated gate-driver configuration, supported voltage range, I/O count and communication interfaces. This enables developers to maintain a common software platform across the entire product family while minimizing software migration between different performance classes. In addition, all devices are certified according to UL60730-1 Class B.

High-Performance Motor Control with Motion Engine

At the heart of the architecture is Fortior’s dedicated Motion Engine (ME-Core), which accelerates field-oriented control (FOC) in hardware. This enables control loop times as low as 5 µs, PWM frequencies up to 120 kHz and motor speeds reaching 200,000 rpm. The architecture also provides reliable control of low-inductance motors requiring extremely fast current regulation and high dynamic performance.

One of the key strengths of the FU75xx family is its advanced sensorless motor control. High Frequency Injection (HFI) combined with a Low-Speed Observer enables reliable sensorless start-up directly from standstill, even under load. Furthermore, the modular ME-Core architecture allows developers to replace individual control functions—such as the observer—with their own algorithms while retaining the benefits of hardware acceleration.

Flexible Platform Covering Multiple Markets

Depending on the device variant, the FU75xx family supports one or two motors. Devices are available without an integrated gate driver, with a single gate driver, or with dual gate drivers for various voltage classes. Alternatively, external gate drivers can be controlled via dedicated PWM outputs.

This flexibility makes the platform suitable for a wide range of applications, including pumps, fans, robotics, servo systems, household appliances and power tools. The portfolio has recently been expanded with AEC-Q100 Grade 1 qualified automotive derivatives for electrically driven vehicle auxiliary systems such as water pumps, oil pumps, HVAC blowers, seat adjustment systems and window lifters.

Complete Development Ecosystem

Fortior complements the hardware platform with the free FTM32ForgeIDE development environment, a comprehensive range of evaluation boards and application-oriented engineering support. As part of its customer support program, Fortior can characterize customer motors and provide optimized motor parameters together with an evaluation board, enabling rapid evaluation and significantly reducing development time.

Quote

„The FU75xx family makes high-performance motor control not only more powerful, but also significantly more accessible. The combination of RISC-V architecture, the dedicated Motion Engine and Fortior’s application-oriented support concept substantially reduces development time, allowing engineers to focus on their application instead of the underlying motor control algorithms.“
