RoHS / REACH
RoHS Definition:The purpose of Directive 2002/95/EC on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment is to approximate the laws of the Member States on the restrictions of the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment and to contribute to the protection of human health and the environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment. The maximum concentration values of the restricted substances by weight in homogenous materials are:
Lead 0.1%
Mercury 0.1%
Hexavalent Chromium 0.1%
Polybrominated Biphenyls 0.1%
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers 0.1%
Cadmium 0.01%
REACH:
REACH is a new European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The new law entered into force on 1 June 2007.
The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. At the same time, innovative capability and competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry should be enhanced.
